Sorbonne University Recognized for its Promotion of Open Science

Sorbonne University received open science awards

Inauguration of Research Data Gouv and awarding of Open Science prizes

On Friday, July 8, the Minister of Higher Education and Research inaugurated the national research data warehouse, Recherche Data Gouv. Recherche Data Gouv is designed to function as an ecosystem for sharing and opening up research data, and includes support modules—local workshops, thematic reference centers—and a module for depositing and reporting data. In addition to the warehouse, Recherche Data Gouv will soon include a catalog to search for data published on external warehouses.

The Minister of Higher Education and Research presented open science awards to highlight projects around research data and software. Fabrice Kordon represented LIP6 and the designers of Coriolis, which won an open source software award. Coriolis is a tool for placing and routing integrated circuits on silicon. The project started in 2000 and concerns digital sciences and mathematics.

A prize for innovation in libraries

On the same day, at the annual congress of the League of European Research Libraries (LIBER), a "LIBER Award for Library Innovation" was presented to the Sorbonne University Library (BSU) to reward its work in open science training.

Indeed, in the Sorbonne University charter for open access to publications, the University commits to training its community to respond to the challenges of open science. This is coordinated by the BSU which offers more than 30 training courses on research data, open access to publications, digital humanities and the impact and valorization of scientific works.

The LIBER conference was also an opportunity to present the MOOC "Open Science" created by the Sorbonne University Alliance, which was very well received.

Sorbonne University's commitment to open science

These awards recognize the university community's commitment to open science, which Sorbonne University has placed in its 2019-2023 five-year plan as one of its four major strategic priorities. The University has adopted a very proactive policy on open science.

The means put in place as well as the texts adopted by the research commissions testify to the institution's adherence to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). The texts adopted at the university include: a charter for open access to publications; the policy of valuing actions for open science in the internal evaluation of research; and a policy of opening up research data within the Sorbonne University Alliance.

Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine teaches the 3 cycles of medical studies: from PASS (integrated into the faculty) to the 3rd cycle including DES, DESC, DU and DIU. The lessons are given mainly on two sites: Pitié-Salpêtrière and Saint-Antoine. The faculty also provides paramedical education: speech therapy, psychomotricity and orthoptics. The Saint-Antoine site includes a midwifery school.

Welcome to Sorbonne University's Faculty of Science & Engineering

A unique combination of courses and expertise

Our international study programmes are organised according to the major disciplinary areas of the faculty. They represent the graduate study programmes that are not strictly conducted in French or that could be suitable (in part) for non French-speaking students. They also reflect part of the diversity of the disciplines involved and the bi- and inter-disciplinary aspects of many of the courses we offer.

Research & Innovation

We rely on disciplinary skills and on interdisciplinary approaches to renew concepts, methods and research subjects and to focus on some of the crucial issues faced by our societies: transformations affecting the very construction of knowledge (data, AI), the treatment of complex objects (the environment, marine and ocean sciences, cultural heritage) or our contributions to addressing societal challenges (climate change, healthcare).

Our campuses offer different and unique experiences to our students, visitors and staff. Resources and support services are also available to ensure an equal chance at success to all.

Campus Life

In addition to the cultural activities and events organised throughout the year by our clubs and societies, the Parismus society organises numerous events, evenings and cultural visits that will help you discover France and its parisian life.
