Doctoral candidates assigned to a laboratory in the Faculty of Science and Engineering or Medicine

To register, doctoral students must create an ADUM account if they do not have one.

The pedagogical registration is managed by your doctoral school. Administrative registration and payment of fees are managed by the doctoral candidate reception office.

CALENDAR

Opening of the pedagogical and administrative registration on ADUM: August 30, 2022
Finalization and payment of fees: from September 14 (upon receipt of an invitation to finalize the administrative registration).

Closing of 1st year registrations: coming soon
Closing date for re-enrolment in the 2nd year of the doctorate and beyond: December 15, 2022

REGISTRATION FEES

The registration fee is €380 for the academic year 2022-2023. It is possible to pay the registration fees by credit card via the online portal or by check made out to the Accounting Officer of Sorbonne University. On the back of the check, the name, first name and student number must be written. It is recommended to pay by credit card, as the processing time for checks is longer.

STUDENT CARDS

After administrative validation, the student card will be sent to you as soon as possible, by mail to the address you have indicated in the application.

Each academic year, you will have to proceed with your administrative registration according to the calendar indicated above. For a 1st year registration, it must be done at the latest in the very first days following the date of the beginning of the doctoral financing.

First Step

Regardless of whether or not you're already a Sorbonne University student, you must create an account on the ADUM platform.

Then, let the platform guide you. You will be asked to enter some personal data and to submit your documents. For documents requiring a PDF attachment, you can use pdf24, which is free downloadable software.

Second Step

You will have to wait for your application to be processed and you may be asked to provide details and documents.

An email will be sent to you so that you can finalize your registration and pay the fees online on a second platform, IAweb, the next day.

You must finalize your administrative registration even if you are exempt from paying registration fees, for example in the case of a co-supervision where the fees are paid in the partner institution, or an exempted Campus France scholarship..... This second step is a prerequisite for obtaining your schooling certificate and your student card.

•   For doctoral candidates who have never been enrolled at Sorbonne University or UPMC
•   For doctoral candidates who have previously been enrolled at Sorbonne University or UPMC

Third Step

You will receive your school certificate (certificat de scolarité) and your student card by mail. The student card is sent when you first register at Sorbonne University. Then the school certificate allows you to update it every year.
Reminder: until your defense, you must re-register each year.

Fourth year exemption

As a general rule, the preparation of a doctorate takes three years. Exceptions may be granted by the head of the institution, on the proposal of the doctoral school director and after the review of the thesis director, on the basis of a justified request from the candidate.

If you will not defend your thesis before December 31, you must re-register before December 15.

....................

Please Note:

Once your registration is finalized, you will receive an email from Sorbonne University on your personal email address that will give you access to the resources available to you (several applications or platforms) including IAweb, ENT, Izly, Moodle....

ADUM login

When you create your ADUM account on Adum.fr, you will be asked for your email address and to create a password. Take note of it.
To reset your password, click on "I forgot my password" on the login screen.

IA Web login

You will log in to IA Web directly via your ADUM number if you have never been enrolled in Sorbonne University in the past. Reset your password here.

If you lose your student number

Send your request with a copy of your ID to the doctoral candidate reception office by email.

The national student identification number: INE

This number allows each doctoral candidate registered in a French higher education institution to be individually identified. It is assigned by the first institution of registration and is carried over to the registration in any institution throughout the course of study. It is required on all applications.

For those with a French baccalaureate and have never been enrolled in a higher education institution, the number is based on the BEA number indicated on the baccalaureate sticker.

Students who have never been registered in a French higher education institution will be given a number by Sorbonne University.

It is composed of 10 digits and one letter.

If you're an international doctoral candidate, when you purchase the CVEC, you may be given a provisional number. It is not valid for registering on the application site. Leave the field blank.

Changes to your administrative file

For any changes required, please contact your doctoral school.

A co-supervised doctoral research project is created with an international partner institution authorized to award a doctorate. It includes a subject, funding (French or foreign), two (or three) co-supervisors and two (or three) degrees.

Principles of the international co-supervision thesis

  • The thesis work is carried out between two (or three) laboratories, one attached to a Sorbonne University doctoral school (ED), the second (or third) in a laboratory of the partner university
  • The doctoral candidate carries out their research under the responsibility of a thesis director in each of the institutions concerned, which carry out their supervisory functions in collaboration with each other
  • The preparation of the doctorate is carried out in alternating periods in the different institutions concerned, according to a balanced calendar and the terms and conditions defined by the co-supervision agreement
  • The doctoral candidate registers each year for a doctorate in 2 (or 3) higher education institutions: one in France, the second (or third) abroad
  • The thesis is defended in one of the signatory institutions according to the rules specified in the co-suprvision agreement
  • The PhD receives either two (or three) doctoral degrees from the signatory institutions or a joint degree. The international co-supervision is mentioned on the diplomas.

Setting up an international co-supervision

  • As soon as your application has been accepted, you can download the application form for a co-supervision (cotutelle) from ADUM
  • After validation by the different parties, you must deposit the signed form in the ADUM deposit area with all the documents required for administrative registration in the doctoral program
  • With the validated file, the drafting of the proposal for the co-supervision agreement will begin
  • You will proceed to register for your doctorate at Sorbonne University according to the usual procedure

International co-direction of a doctorate

The international co-direction follows the same rules as the co-supervision except for the diploma which is delivered by only one of the two institutions.

Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine teaches the 3 cycles of medical studies: from PASS (integrated into the faculty) to the 3rd cycle including DES, DESC, DU and DIU. The lessons are given mainly on two sites: Pitié-Salpêtrière and Saint-Antoine. The faculty also provides paramedical education: speech therapy, psychomotricity and orthoptics. The Saint-Antoine site includes a midwifery school.

Welcome to Sorbonne University's Faculty of Science & Engineering

A unique combination of courses and expertise

Our international study programmes are organised according to the major disciplinary areas of the faculty. They represent the graduate study programmes that are not strictly conducted in French or that could be suitable (in part) for non French-speaking students. They also reflect part of the diversity of the disciplines involved and the bi- and inter-disciplinary aspects of many of the courses we offer.

Research & Innovation

We rely on disciplinary skills and on interdisciplinary approaches to renew concepts, methods and research subjects and to focus on some of the crucial issues faced by our societies: transformations affecting the very construction of knowledge (data, AI), the treatment of complex objects (the environment, marine and ocean sciences, cultural heritage) or our contributions to addressing societal challenges (climate change, healthcare).

Study at | The Faculty of Science & Engineering

Our campuses offer different and unique experiences to our students, visitors and staff. Resources and support services are also available to ensure an equal chance at success to all.

Campus Life

In addition to the cultural activities and events organised throughout the year by our clubs and societies, the Parismus society organises numerous events, evenings and cultural visits that will help you discover France and its parisian life.
