Sorbonne University builds on its real estate assets and renovates its research facilities

Sorbonne University continues the renovation of its real estate and the acquisition of research equipment. With the assistance of the State-Region Plan Contract (CPER) 2021-2027, which will allow Sorbonne University to benefit from 53.9 million euros for university real estate and an additional 6.6 million euros from the Île-de-France Region to finance research equipment projects.

The 2021-2027 State-Region Plan Contract (CPER) will support 128 large-scale projects in the Île-de-France region on the higher education and research component, of which Sorbonne University will be a beneficiary. The projects will focus on energy-efficient renovation of buildings, health training, quality of student life, research and innovation, adaptation of real estate assets to changes in training and digital technology, and access to short professional training courses.

Funded university real estate projects in the Paris Region

Partly financed by the State and the Region, these real estate projects are designed to renovate the energy efficiency of areas dedicated to research and innovation. This will make it possible to re-establish areas that are favorable to the hosting or preservation of biodiversity.

Sorbonne University has received funding in this area and is renovating the Faculty of Medicine at the Pitié-Salpêtrière site, the Institute of Art and Archaeology and the renovation of buildings A, B and C at Cassan on the Pierre et Marie Curie campus, for a total CPER funding of 48.9 million euros. The Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN), its partner in the Alliance, will be able to undertake the security upgrade of the Galerie de paléontologie et d'anatomie comparée, with total CPER funding of €5 million.

Projects funded for research equipment

CPER 2021-2027 funding for the Sorbonne University Alliance is estimated at 6.6 million euros for research equipment.

On the one hand, 4.3 million euros are devoted to strengthening computing resources for data science and artificial intelligence. Of this amount, 2.4 million euros come from the State, and 1.9 million euros from the Region.

Also associated with this approach is funding of 2.3 million euros for the development of a pole of imaging of the retina and brain to strengthen therapeutic strategies and their industrial transfers. The contributions to this amount are 1.5 million euros from the Region and 800,000 euros from the State.

Real estate operations in the region

In addition to the projects financed for university real estate in the Île-de-France region, Sorbonne University has also submitted three projects to the CPERs of the three other regions where it is located (Brittany, Occitania, PACA).

The Transition operation was selected in Brittany for 2.9 million euros of CPER funding. It will make it possible to anchor the responsibility and sustainability of the research institute's operations and uses in a long-term plan. The attractiveness of the site, its security, accessibility and functionality will also be reinforced.

Also, the operation 3 Start innovation in Occitania has commited 2.17 million euros of CPER funding to rehabilitate the historical site of the Observatory at Banyuls-sur-Mer. This operation will contribute to the chain of discoveries, innovation and wealth by giving access to the infrastructure to various researchers, students, engineers, entrepreneurs in the region.

Lastly, the Watersealab project has been selected in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region with CPER funding of 690,000 euros, to promote the environmental and ecological transition by enabling the renovation of premises and laboratories dedicated to research at the Villefranche-sur-Mer site.

Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine teaches the 3 cycles of medical studies: from PASS (integrated into the faculty) to the 3rd cycle including DES, DESC, DU and DIU. The lessons are given mainly on two sites: Pitié-Salpêtrière and Saint-Antoine. The faculty also provides paramedical education: speech therapy, psychomotricity and orthoptics. The Saint-Antoine site includes a midwifery school.

Welcome to Sorbonne University's Faculty of Science & Engineering

A unique combination of courses and expertise

Our international study programmes are organised according to the major disciplinary areas of the faculty. They represent the graduate study programmes that are not strictly conducted in French or that could be suitable (in part) for non French-speaking students. They also reflect part of the diversity of the disciplines involved and the bi- and inter-disciplinary aspects of many of the courses we offer.

Research & Innovation

We rely on disciplinary skills and on interdisciplinary approaches to renew concepts, methods and research subjects and to focus on some of the crucial issues faced by our societies: transformations affecting the very construction of knowledge (data, AI), the treatment of complex objects (the environment, marine and ocean sciences, cultural heritage) or our contributions to addressing societal challenges (climate change, healthcare).

Campus Life

In addition to the cultural activities and events organised throughout the year by our clubs and societies, the Parismus society organises numerous events, evenings and cultural visits that will help you discover France and its parisian life.
