Establish an individual training plan

From the beginning of their PhD, doctoral candidates are encouraged to assess their educational needs and to establish their individual training plan in agreement with their supervisor.

Establish an individual training plan

This plan must be balanced between disciplinary and cross-disciplinary training so as to serve both the research project and their career development plans. Supervisors and doctoral schools advise doctoral candidates and assess the consistency of their individual training plan. This plan evolves and is regularly discussed and updated, particularly during meetings of the individual monitoring committee. This plan must include a section devoted to research ethics and scientific integrity.

To establish and nurture their training plan, we propose that doctoral candidates refer to the courses of the Doctoral College (see catalogue). There doctoral candidates will find:

  • courses and actions dedicated to career development;
  • courses to develop your cross-disciplinary skills.

All courses are open to all doctoral candidates enrolled in a doctoral school of a member of the Sorbonne University Alliance (Sorbonne University, Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC), National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD)). A form allows doctoral candidates to sign up for the training courses of the Doctoral College that they plan to follow within the framework of their individual training plan. It must be filled in at the beginning of the doctorate and validated by the Doctoral College. It may be modified throughout the doctoral training.

As regards disciplinary teaching, whether theoretical, technical or methodological, this is mainly offered by doctoral schools, laboratories or research organisations. Supervisors will be able to easily guide their doctoral candidates towards courses that will be useful to them. These courses must be included in the individual training plan.

Once these courses have been followed, the doctoral candidate will highlight them in his portfolio.

Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine teaches the 3 cycles of medical studies: from PASS (integrated into the faculty) to the 3rd cycle including DES, DESC, DU and DIU. The lessons are given mainly on two sites: Pitié-Salpêtrière and Saint-Antoine. The faculty also provides paramedical education: speech therapy, psychomotricity and orthoptics. The Saint-Antoine site includes a midwifery school.

Welcome to Sorbonne University's Faculty of Science & Engineering

A unique combination of courses and expertise

Our international study programmes are organised according to the major disciplinary areas of the faculty. They represent the graduate study programmes that are not strictly conducted in French or that could be suitable (in part) for non French-speaking students. They also reflect part of the diversity of the disciplines involved and the bi- and inter-disciplinary aspects of many of the courses we offer.

Research & Innovation

We rely on disciplinary skills and on interdisciplinary approaches to renew concepts, methods and research subjects and to focus on some of the crucial issues faced by our societies: transformations affecting the very construction of knowledge (data, AI), the treatment of complex objects (the environment, marine and ocean sciences, cultural heritage) or our contributions to addressing societal challenges (climate change, healthcare).

Our campuses offer different and unique experiences to our students, visitors and staff. Resources and support services are also available to ensure an equal chance at success to all.

Campus Life

In addition to the cultural activities and events organised throughout the year by our clubs and societies, the Parismus society organises numerous events, evenings and cultural visits that will help you discover France and its parisian life.
